HSS 601 - Health Systems Sciences I


Course Description: Health Systems Science I is an introduction to the language and methods of scientific discovery and rigor. Students are introduced to the concept of epistemology and its influence on the practice of medicine. The essential elements of biostatistics, epidemiology, and the basic methods of scientific investigation are laid as a foundation to build skills of critical thinking and appraisal of scientific literature. Students are also introduced to the ethical responsibilities imposed by their profession and status as a healer and scientist in order to appreciate the importance of ethical conduct and maintenance of public trust.
